Why the clock matters
People ask whether we're exaggerating when we say to deal with a chip this week. We're not, and the reason is physics rather than sales.
A chip is a stress concentrator sitting in a large sheet of glass that expands and contracts every single day. Colorado gives that glass more work than almost anywhere: thirty to forty degree swings between a sunny afternoon and a clear night, intense UV at altitude, freeze-thaw cycles that also wreck the roads you're driving on. Then you add a defroster blowing hot air across cold glass on a January morning.
Smaller than a quarter, away from the edge, out of your sightline. Thirty minutes, factory seal preserved, and most carriers waive the deductible entirely.
Short lines start radiating from the break. This is the chip actively looking for somewhere to go. Repair may still hold it today.
Repair is no longer an option. Now it's a replacement, which means your comprehensive deductible instead of nothing, and a new bond replacing the factory one.
Edge cracks undermine the structural bond, and damage in your view scatters light exactly where you're looking. On a newer vehicle, add ADAS recalibration to the job.
The practical rule: get chips looked at the same week you get them. A repair is the cheapest, fastest, least invasive thing that will ever happen to your windshield, and it's the only option with an expiration date.

Here's what's actually true about glass coverage in Colorado, including a few things you'll see stated wrong elsewhere:
Under Colorado Revised Statutes § 10-4-613, an insurance company cannot require that your auto glass work be performed at a particular facility as a condition of paying your claim. The statute also prohibits insurers from using intimidation, coercion or threats to push you toward a specific vendor.
They're allowed to recommend. They are not allowed to require. If you're told on the phone that you have to use a national chain, you don't — say you've chosen Bear Creek Auto Glass and the claim gets paid the same way.

We come to your home, workplace, or wherever the vehicle is parked. One exception: a static ADAS calibration needs a level indoor floor with controlled lighting, so that portion happens at the Littleton shop.

Repair takes about thirty minutes and keeps your original factory seal. Colorado freeze-thaw cycles spread chips fast, and past about six inches repair is no longer possible.
It depends on the adhesive and the weather, not a fixed hour. Cure time roughly doubles for every 15 to 18°F the temperature drops, so an adhesive rated about an hour at 70°F can need eight hours or more at 35°F, and most adhesives aren't rated below 40°F at all. We give you the real number for your vehicle and that day's conditions, before and after the install.
Rock chip repair is usually covered with the deductible waived, because a repair costs the carrier far less than the replacement that follows if it spreads. Full replacement normally applies your comprehensive deductible unless you carry a glass endorsement. Colorado is not a zero-deductible glass state like Florida or South Carolina, and a liability-only policy includes no glass coverage at all.
